ALPHA INDUSTRIES x VETEMENTS

On Sunday, July 3, our latest collaboration with French fashion house Vetements hit the runway as part of their Spring-Summer 2017 Collection. The collection consists of collaborations with not only Alpha Industries but 17 other heritage brands, each the leader of their respective market niche.

The show was presented at the Galeries Lafayette. The quintessential department store, founded in 1912, is at the core of Parisian retailing and a must-see for all visitors coming to the French capital.

When asked about the collection Vetements creative director, Demna Gvasalia, shared that the reward was working with companies that brought generations of know-how to the table. "When we saw the first prototypes coming in, for example, from Alpha Industries — the bomber jackets — they were perfect,” he says. "To me, that’s something we could never have done, even with the best factories in Italy, because they don’t have a hand for that. Alpha has done bomber jacket for years. They supply the army."

When asked about Vetements' idiosyncratic fit Angelyn Fernandez, our US vice-president of production and merchandising, explains: "We knew this would be different than what we do, but not completely out of our range. Alpha Industries has been making MA-1 bomber jackets for 50 years, and at one point we offered up to size 8XL, so the sizing and fit wasn't difficult. We just knew to expect the unexpected with [Vetements], and we are very happy with the results."
